Victorian Oil of the Blacksmith's Forge

A superb oil on canvas painting of a Blacksmith's Forge. The work has been painted en plein air and has a speed and looseness about it which is very impressionistic in feel. The work shows a blacksmith pumping the bellows with his hot iron in the heat of the forge, while in the room we see anvils and the bright light from the window and the world outside. The painting is mounted in a superb orginal gilt swept and elaborately moulded frame, from the victorian period. The work is sadly unsigned but ithe whole is a hugely decorative interesting and impressive work. C.1870.
