Francis Nicholson "Scarborough, Yorkshire" Watercolour

Description

Francis Nicholson was born in Pickering, Yorkshire in 1753.

"SCARBOROUGH, YORKSHIRE," is a superb quality watercolour by Nicholson. It has an old "John Mitchell and Son, New Bond Street" label on the back. It measures 11"x 14."

Nicholson studied under Thomas Beckwith and taught drawing. He is regarded as the father of watercolour painting and was a founder of the watercolour society.

This is a very fine example of the artist's work, the colours remaining very fresh, and is one of the finest local watercolours we have ever offered.
