A good nineteenth century oil painting of a Scotsman with his dog. The oil on canvas shows a young Scotsman sitting under a tree with his dog at his knee and wearing traditional dress. The work is slightly naive which gives it a huge amount of charm, with his cherubic face and the look of the dog. The portrait is mounted in the original gilt swept frame with applied shell mouldings. The whole is original and untouched, having had only a light clean. C.1840.
