Superb Oil of 'The Little Pot Polisher'

A wonderful quality oil on canvas painting of a young girl polishing a copper saucepan. The work is painted in wonderful detail and is full of charm and character. The painting is probably of Dutch origin as it shows a young girl with hair in bunches, typical of Dutch dress. The quality of work on the hands and expression is lovely, yet the whole has a wonderful sketch quality to it that makes it fresh and lively. The work is in the original superb quality gilt frame, it really would have been the most expensive frame money could buy at the time with tier upon tier of mouldings, all hand gilded. The frame is from W. Craibe Angus of Glasgow a leading art dealer of the city in the nineteenth century and such points to the painting being of some note. The work appears to be unsigned, it must however be the work of a skilled artists and further research would be advised.
