A good quality well painted late seventeenth century portrait after Van Dyke. The work shows a figure in style and costume similar to the puritan portraits Van Dyke painted, dressed in black and white. The technique is good throughout, it has been lined in the eighteenth century and later tears have been repaired, restoration to the front and removal of overpaint has been done in the hair. The whole is a good period portrait, which is unframed. C.1700
