This Victorian Gothic Revival hall stand is made of dark brown oak with a bevelled glass mirror, eight hand-turned wooden coat and hat hooks, and a small central glove drawer. The woodwork displays extensive hand-carving including a central Green Man mask on the pediment cornice, another forming the drawer pull, foliate carved panels, and lunette carved friezes. Further construction details include turned upright supports at the front corners, raised panels flanking the upper mirror, and two integrated umbrella stands at the base complete with their original metal drip trays. The piece measures 218 cm tall, 38 cm deep, and 89 cm wide. Positioned in an entrance hallway, this piece serves as a practical furniture item for organising coats, hats, and umbrellas while providing a mirror for last-minute checks before leaving the house. The surface storage area and drawer hold small everyday items such as gloves and keys. The solid oak construction suits traditional or period-inspired interiors, providing a functional organisational station near an entryway.

Victorian Green Man furniture belongs to the Gothic and Renaissance Revival movements of the late nineteenth century. It is defined by deeply carved mythological foliage faces, heavy English oak construction, and historicist decorative panels.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid oak or walnut using hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery. They incorporated silvered glass mirrors, cast metal or turned wooden pegs, and tin drip trays housed in the base.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display hand-carved detailing with minor variations, original cast iron or zinc drip liners in the base, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, and natural aging or shrinkage lines in the timber.

Position the piece in a modern foyer or hallway against neutral wall colours to highlight the dark timber relief. The lower sections can hold contemporary umbrellas or walking sticks while the pegs provide functional storage.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, using a soft-bristled brush to remove dust from detailed carvings. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber finish and prevent drying.
