This Victorian framed art piece is a nineteenth-century portrait lithograph titled Skating, depicting a young girl ice skating in a winter landscape within an arched aperture. The artwork uses a warm brown and blue colour palette on paper and sits behind original glass. A burr veneered wooden frame encloses the picture, complemented by timber moulding, a card back panel, and a small label at the base bearing the word Skating. The entire piece measures 68 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 2 cm deep. Ideal for domestic display, this framed work hangs effectively above a sideboard in a living room, dining room, or hallway. The Victorian and Gothic design complements traditional interiors, adding seasonal character to wall spaces. Collectors of nineteenth-century prints find this piece suitable for integration into existing period displays within a home.

FAQs

Colour lithography, or chromolithography, developed in the 19th century to reproduce multi-toned images using chemically treated stone blocks, making detailed figurative art widely accessible.

These works consist of oil-based inks applied to paper stock, traditionally mounted behind glass within moulded timber frames and gilded slips.

Authentic period lithographs feature smooth colour gradations without modern digital dot matrices under magnification, along with age-consistent paper toning and original timber framing.

Position the framed artwork within a gallery wall alongside minimalist sketches or display it individually to create visual texture against neutral wall colours.

Keep paper artwork away from direct sunlight and damp environments to prevent fading and foxing, ensuring framing utilises acid-free backing materials.
