Imprint of lithographic printer J. Graf to the Queen: mid-Victorian production.
Publication line of Fores at 41 Piccadilly: established London sporting print seller.
Subtle hand-tinting over stone lithography: typical mid-19th-century illustrative printmaking.

During the nineteenth century, British landowners and livestock breeders commissioned portraits of their prize-winning animals to record agricultural advancements and breed standards. These images were rendered as lithographs or engravings and published for farm enthusiasts and agricultural societies.

These prints were produced using stone lithography on heavy paper stock, often finished with hand-applied watercolour washes. Text was printed directly onto the lower margin detailing the breed, owner, weights, and awards.

Authentic prints feature publication lines from historic fine art publishers, artist and lithographer signatures along the plate margin, hand-tinted colouring, and age-consistent paper tone without modern photolithographic dots.

These works suit traditional English country house, rustic farmhouse, or modern rustic interiors. Mounting them in wooden frames allows them to sit above sideboards, mantelpieces, or as part of a gallery wall.

Keep prints framed behind UV-filtering glass using acid-free matting materials to prevent yellowing. Avoid displaying them in direct sunlight or areas with high humidity to prevent foxing and moisture damage.
