This early 20th-century Art Deco bronze sculpture depicts a single sculler in a narrow boat, mounted on a solid rectangular plinth base with a textured water surface. Cast in dark brown bronze with a patinated finish, the sculpture portrays a seated rower figure holding oars in motion, resting upon a substantial stepped base. Visible details include the sculptural rendering of the ripples in the water, the seated athlete, and the long slender hull of the sculler's craft. The piece measures 8.5 cm high, 35.5 cm wide, and 20 cm deep, and weighs 1.25kg. Suitable for display in a gentleman's library or on an office desk, this patinated bronze functions well as a decorative desk ornament or mantelpiece display piece. The sculpture integrates smoothly into traditional and Art Deco interiors, serving as an accent on bookcases, side tables, or executive desks. The compact proportions allow it to fit onto standard bookshelves and narrow ledges without dominating the surface area.

During the early 20th century, Austrian sculptors frequently celebrated athletic achievement through bronze sculptures, capturing human anatomy, movement, and competitive sports such as rowing with realistic precision.

Most early 20th-century figurative bronzes were cast using the lost-wax (cire perdue) process or sand casting methods, followed by hand-chiselled surface finishing and the application of a patinated seal.

Authentic pieces generally feature incised foundry marks or artist signatures, finely worked surface details on high-relief areas, and authentic surface patination consistent with age and handling.

Position the bronze sculpture on an office desk, mantelpiece, or bookshelf alongside dark wood surfaces and tailored accents to create a refined, classical atmosphere.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry cloth or soft-bristled brush, avoiding liquid cleaners or abrasive polishes, and apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax annually to protect the original finish.
