During the 18th and 19th centuries, wealthy European travellers embarking on the Grand Tour acquired carved marble busts and classical fragments as educational souvenirs inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity.

These sculptures were carved by hand from solid blocks of natural marble, often white Carrara or Greek marble, featuring detailed chisel work for the hair, facial features, and drapery.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-carved tool marks, natural patination, subtle surface wear, and mounting methods such as iron or steel rods attached to display bases.

Position the bust on a fireplace mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard alongside leather-bound books and metallic objects to create a curated classical focal point.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or soft-bristled brush, and avoid acidic or abrasive chemical cleaners that can etch or discolour the porous marble surface.
