This William and Mary style low boy is executed in warm brown walnut and oak, showing visible grain figures alongside brass hardware and moulded edging. The rectangular top displays book-matched veneers and cross-banding above a single frieze drawer fitted with brass drop handles. A shaped, scalloped apron with triple arches transitions downwards to cup-and-cover turned baluster legs joined by an X-form stretcher, terminating in turned bun feet. Measuring 73 cm high, 83 cm wide and 51 cm deep, the table functions as a side table positioned on a stairway landing in an English country house interior. The piece combines an earlier top with later restoration to the base while maintaining its characteristic period aesthetic.

A lowboy is a small, versatile table fitted with drawers, originally created in late 17th-century England and popular through the William and Mary period for use as a dressing table or side server.

These tables were typically crafted from solid walnut and figured walnut veneers, complemented by secondary woods such as pine or oak for drawer linings and fitted with cast brass teardrop handles.

Authentic design hallmarks include cup-and-cover or baluster turned legs, a heavily shaped or arched apron, flat serpentine stretchers, and hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery.

A walnut lowboy serves as a functional statement piece when placed in a hallway as a console, used in a bedroom as a compact dressing table, or styled beneath a mirror in a living area.

To preserve the timber, maintain stable indoor humidity and position the table away from direct sunlight or heat sources, cleaning with a dry soft cloth and applying beeswax once a year.
