A pair of large portraits in oil on canvas, signed and dated Thomas Welles Beecham, originate from 1940. One canvas depicts a self-portrait of the artist holding a palette, and the companion canvas shows a portrait of his wife seated outdoors knitting. Both works hang within heavy moulded giltwood frames decorated with ornate floral corner carvings and relief patterns.
