This series originally consists of four sequential copperplate engravings depicting gentlemen sportsmen out with their dogs across different terrain and times of day and they are as follows ( from main image)
Middle: Shooting, Plate II — depicts shooters walking through open countryside/fields near a cottage with pointer dogs flushing out game.
Bottom: Shooting, Plate III — depicts shooters resting or preparing in a shaded, dense woodland setting.
William Woollett was one of the premier English engravers of the 18th century, famous for capturing the texture and light of landscape paintings through fine line work. These prints after George Stubbs' oil paintings are considered classic works of British sporting art.
