S and S Timms Antiques Ltd has dated this Victorian Mahogany Window Seat to the 19th Century.
This particular example is a little more unusual than most, principally due to its attractive small proportions and the raised turned rolls to each end, which are supported on elegant swept uprights rather than being applied directly to the top as is more commonly found.

Constructed from good quality mahogany throughout, it retains a lovely rich colour and surface, with plenty of natural figuring to the rectangular top and the inevitable old marks, scuffs, knocks and minor imperfections which one would expect from well over 150 years of use.

Of course one of the real attractions of these benches is their versatility. This example would naturally work extremely well underneath a window or against the wall in a hallway, but its relatively small proportions also make it ideal for the end of a bed, behind a settee, or even as an unusual narrow coffee table.

Overall the bench remains in very good condition and is both sturdy and practical for everyday use. As with all items which we offer for sale it has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our trained antique furniture restorers, where it has received a natural wax polish to ensure that it is ready for immediate placement within the home.
