Description

Complete Set of 9 After Pablo Picasso Quadrichrome Prints Suite Céramiques 1959

Brief Description:

This is a fabulous and complete set of nine quadrichrome colour prints, after Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881–1973), depicting celebrated designs from his ceramic works associated with Suite: Céramiques – 1959.

A wonderfully striking collection, the nine individual works reproduce Picasso's distinctive ceramic plate designs, encompassing an extraordinary variety of subjects including owls, birds, stylised human faces, bulls, horses, classical figures and still-life compositions.

Each image possesses the wonderfully spontaneous and unmistakable character associated with Picasso's ceramic output, with strong expressive lines and a particularly attractive palette of cobalt and turquoise blues, earthy browns, terracotta, black, cream and green.

The collection includes some particularly appealing compositions, including the two wide-eyed owls, the wonderfully bold deep cobalt-blue stylised face, the dramatic dark mask-like head, a colourful bird, equestrian and mythological subjects, and Picasso's instantly recognisable treatment of the bull.

The works are quadrichrome prints after Picasso's original ceramic plate designs.

Importantly, the complete collection of nine works has remained together as a set and is beautifully presented within matching glazed frames, allowing them to be hung either individually, in smaller groups, or—as illustrated—as a spectacular nine-piece wall installation.

The relatively compact dimensions of each framed work make the collection particularly versatile, while displaying all nine together creates an exceptionally impressive piece of mid-century-inspired interior decoration.

A superb and increasingly desirable decorative collection after one of the most important and influential artists of the 20th century.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

In 1946, Pablo Picasso visited the Madoura Pottery workshop in Vallauris, France, beginning a prolific period of ceramic creation. His ceramic designs featured bold motifs, bullfighting scenes, faces, and animals, which were later documented in specialized portfolios published during the 1950s.

Quadrichrome printing is a four-colour offset lithographic technique that uses cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks to accurately capture tone and texture. Printed on heavy paper stock, this method allowed precise graphic reproductions of ceramic platters and three-dimensional objects.

Authentic prints from the 1959 edition were published by Editions Cercle dArt in Paris. Identification relies on precise publication dimensions, quality woven paper, distinct colour registration, and reference back to the original portfolio catalogue.

A uniform nine-piece set is suited to a structured three-by-three grid arrangement to create a cohesive focal point. These graphic prints pair effectively with mid-century furniture, natural timber sideboards, and neutral wall tones.

Paper prints should be mounted using acid-free materials and placed behind UV-protective glass to prevent fading and discoloration. Avoid hanging paper artworks in areas with high humidity or direct sunlight exposure.
