This is a truly magnificent and monumental original Still Life Oil Painting, standing an extraordinary circa 7 feet tall and depicting a breathtaking arrangement of flowers in the tradition of the great Dutch Old Masters.
The composition depicts an abundant arrangement of flowers overflowing from a substantial ornamental urn, dramatically positioned upon a stone pedestal within the architectural surroundings of a grand country residence.
The artist has incorporated a wonderful variety of flowers, including tulips, roses and irises, complemented by two butterflies and a charming bird's nest containing eggs. These beautifully observed details are strongly reminiscent of the elaborate floral still-life paintings produced by Dutch and Flemish artists during the 17th and 18th centuries.
The sheer scale of the painting gives it tremendous decorative presence. At approximately 7 feet tall, this is very much a statement piece and would look spectacular within a large country house, hotel, restaurant, entrance hall, staircase, commercial interior or substantial period residence.
Painted in the early 20th century in the manner of an 18th-century Dutch Old Master, the work is executed in oil on canvas, subsequently laid to board, and is presented within a substantial later gilt gesso moulded frame.
