Large 19th Century heraldic panel- Coat of arms of the Bath family of Swansea and Alltyferin, Wales.

The central cartouche containing two stags and nine dog heads, surrounded by scrolling foliage, surmounted by a profile of a collared dog in profile with a rose in its mouth. The Latin inscription at the bottom reads "Habere et dispertire", which translates to "I have and I will share" (or "To have and to share"). Finely executed in polychrome and gilt paint on a wood panel and mounted in possibly its original Hogarth frame.

66cm High x 58cm Wide, including the frame.

History: This specific armorial design was officially granted in 1868 to the prominent industrialist Henry James Bath, a partner in the major copper smelting and ore trading firm Henry Bath & Son based in Swansea. He commissioned the grant to formalize his family's lineage and standing, extending its usage rights to all descendants of his father. The same historic motto was later famously adopted by Wells College in Aurora, New York.
