1882, Very Rare, Inuit Civilisation, Tanned Seak Skin, Wood & Bone, Eskimo & Kayak (Inuit / Canadian).

Inscribed: ''White Fish Island 1882”.

In the 1800's, White Fish Island was a significant site for Indigenous peoples and was recognised as belonging to the Batchewana First Nation. The Island was a location of Indigenous settlement, trade, and fishing activities.

In 1882, an American trading ship, the Venus, provided the islanders with cotton seeds for future crops.

CONDITION:

Wear commensurate with age.

PROVENANCE:

From the Estate of an Art & Antiques Collector in Paris, France.

Includes a Tribal Art Expert's, Certificate of Authenticity, and Receipt from its purchase in Paris in 2005 for the amount of €3,300.
