Original Sketches of Prince Albert by John Lucas (1807-1874)

A wonderful group of sketches of Prince Albert by the famous portraitist John Lucas, in superb quality presentation mount. A very interesting and decorative pair of sketches that were worked by Lucas for one of his portraits of the Prince Consort, they depict the prince in two poses. John Lucas (1807-1874) was one of the most highly regarded portrait painters of his age, he exhibited a remarkable 96 portraits at The Royal Academy. He was a particular favourite of the royal family and painted the Prince Consort four times. The sketches are in excellent condition and have been framed in a wonderful quality presentation mount featuring an embossed leather slip with details of the work, a fine gilt frame set in purple velvet, all within a rosewood box frame. A truly unique item and a rare piece of Royal memorabilia as it was no doubt sketched from life. C.1840.
