Georgian Scottish Heraldic Painted Coach Panel

£675    $914    €795
A superb example of a Georgian period heraldic painted coach panel. The panel worked in oil paints depicts an elaborate shield draped in cloth and surmounted by a female figure, below is the motto ‘Garde Bien’. The shield is representative of the Scottish clan Montgomery. The panel is very finely painted and in good condition with a slight crack appearing at the top but not distracting from the whole, it is also curved to fit the side of a coach. The panel is framed in a fine rosewood frame and is under glass. An excellent example of a Georgian coach panel and with a huge amount of decorative appeal and Scottish interest. C.1820.

Overall sizes in inches including frame: 16 ½ by 17 ¼
