Oil Painting of Nottingham Castle by Charles Leaver Shaw

A fine oil on canvas view of Nottingham Castle by the artist Charles Leaver Shaw (1853-1903). The work beautifully depicts a late summer landscape view across to the castle on the hill, it is actually titled on the reverse ‘Nottingham Castle, from the Leen side’ with the Leen being the river in the centre. The painting is a very accomplished example of this artist’s work with great composition and confident use of the oils. The painting is in excellent condition and retains the original untouched fine quality gilt frame. The work is signed to the lower right on the front and inscribed on the reverse. Charles Leaver Shaw was a well-regarded Victorian landscape artist from Nottingham where he exhibited at the society of artists between 1880-1898. A charming and decorative English landscape oil that is ready to hang. C.1890.
