Herbert Royle "Winter Sunset, Sefton" Oil Painting

Description

Herbert Royle (1870-1958) was a British landscape painter, born in Patricroft, Lancashire. He trained at the Harris Institute in Preston and Southport school of art under John William Buxton Knight. He exhibited extensively at the Walker gallery, Liverpool, Manchester city art gallery, Royal Academy and at other Galleries and Exhibitions throughout the Country. From 1924 onwards he lived at the Manor House in the hamlet of Nesfield, near Ilkley, where he also had a studio on the hillside above the house.

"Winter Sunset, Sefton" is an oil painting on canvas measuring 20"x 24". It is signed lower right and is framed giving an overall size of 29" x 33".

This interesting early Royle shows the Church of St. Helen, the old Sefton Mill, and the building which is now the Punchbowl at Sefton, Liverpool.
