McTague of Harrogate has dated this piece to the 1910s.
Becoming an elementary teacher, at their insistence, he studied art in evening classes at Keighley School of Art and spent his holidays sketching.
Once his artistic talents were properly recognised, he gained a place in the Painting School of the Royal College of Art (1901-4) and was awarded a travel scholarship which enabled him to travel to Italy (1906). Augustus Spencer, the College Principal, then found him teaching positions at schools in London, and he supplemented this work by running art classes at Leighton House.
He is now regarded as one of the finest painters of the Yorkshire Dales and exhibited at leading London venues including the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, and also in the provinces and abroad.
"The Bridge, Grassington" is a watercolour measuring 10"x 16". It is signed lower left and is framed giving an overall size of 18"x 23". On the back is the nice original label giving the title and artist's address.
