FAQs

Victorian watercolours typically feature detailed depictions of natural landscapes, pastoral scenes, or architectural subjects, often characterised by a meticulous brush technique and muted earth tones.

These artworks were traditionally created using finely ground pigments suspended in a water-soluble binder, applied onto handmade rag paper or heavy watercolour paper.

Authenticity is typically assessed by examining the paper stock for watermarks, inspecting the pigment composition and oxidation under magnification, and looking for period-appropriate signatures or monograms.

Such pieces add historical depth and character when framed with conservation-grade materials and displayed away from direct sunlight to preserve the delicate pigments.

Preservation requires framing behind UV-protective glass, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, and avoiding exposure to direct heat sources or high moisture.
