A very interesting oil on canvas marine painting of two ships the largest in the foreground is ''The Mayhill'' a cargo ship wrecked off Point Moore, Geraldton, Australia, in 1895. The work is slightly naive in nature, it is done on a primitive stretcher and painted onto sail cloth, there is even sand on the canvas. It is likely that the work was done in a time shortly after the wreck and probably by someone connected in some way to it. The work is unsigned but does have an enormous amount of charm and is mounted in a victorian gilt frame which has been painted in part at some time to compliment the picture.
