Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian folding dumb waiter is a practical piece of English Country House furniture formed of dark brown mahogany with a rich timber grain. The design comprises two rectangular tray tiers surrounded by raised edges, an upper horizontal carrying rail set between two vertical uprights, and a visible central folding mechanism with metal hinges. The slender frame stands on splayed feet with scrolled toes that curve outward at the base. Measuring 87 cm high, 58.5 cm wide, and 33 cm deep, the unit offers a space-saving serving solution. In a modern interior, this versatile tea maid functions well in an empty corner, a living room, or a dining space to display small objects, plants, or refreshments. When not in use, the collapsible structure folds flat for convenient storage or discreet placement against a wall. The traditional timber finish and clean lines coordinate easily with both classic and contemporary room schemes, adding functional surface area without taking up permanent floor space.

FAQs

Originating in the 18th century, a dumb waiter is a piece of tiered occasional furniture designed to hold food, condiments, and tableware, allowing diners to serve themselves without servants present.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, combined with brass hinges and folding mechanisms to allow for easy storage.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct joinery, natural wear on the moving joints, hand-cut brass fittings, and consistent patination across the wooden surfaces.

A tiered stand works well as an occasional side table, a plant stand, or a compact bar cart in living rooms, dining spaces, or hallway alcoves.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, avoiding modern aerosol sprays that leave residue.
