Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 18th-century France, Rococo oil paintings typically depict theatrical, romantic, or pastoral scenes with fluid brushwork and pastel colour tones. Works often focus on aristocratic leisure or mythological themes framed by ornate scrollwork.

These artworks are executed using oil pigments painted onto woven linen canvas stretched across timber stretcher bars. The surrounding display frame is traditionally crafted from hand-carved timber or moulded plaster layered with gesso and gilded in gold leaf.

Authentic period pieces exhibit age-appropriate craquelure across the paint surface, natural oxidisation on the rear of the canvas, and hand-cut timber stretchers. Frame construction will show signs of manual joinery and natural patination on the gilded surface.

Position the artwork as a dramatic focal point above a mantelpiece, console, or sideboard to draw the eye. Mixing classical gilded artwork with contemporary architectural elements creates a curated, layered interior design scheme.

Dust the frame and canvas surface gently using a clean, soft-bristled brush without applying pressure. Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity areas to protect the paint layer and gilding from deterioration.
