Artist Biography :
Painter and jewellery designer who was born near Rowley Regis, West Midlands and was mainly self-taught as a painter although he did attended Birmingham School of Art as a part-time evening student during the early 1930's. Hipkiss trained as a jewellery designer and showed his designs in America and France.
During his time there he also held several successful exhibitions in Karachi. As a painter, he exhibited before WWII, at the Dudley Art Club, and also showed at the Pastel Society, at the RBSA and at the New English Art Club who elected him a member in 1979. Examples of his work are in the collection Dudley Art Gallery.
