Antique Early Pottery 17thc Large Stoneware Bellarmine / Bartmann Jug. German C1670-90.

17th century
Description

A magnificent late 17thc stoneware salt glazed Bellarmine jug of a very impressive size....18.5 inches / 46.99cms, complete with Bartmann mask and the number 4 impressed into the body, which is the size of the jug....these impressive jugs would have been traded up the Rhine river, into the Low countries and distributed via Dutch wine merchants to the British Isles and other European countries....condition is very good, with a chip to the underneath of the jug, which does not affect the jug in anyway and can hardly be seen when it is standing upright, you have to turn it upside down to see the chip..(see pictures) ....this jug is a very nice example of these highly collectable pieces of pottery and would enhance any collection....at a very good price.

German. C1680-90. Provenance of a private collection.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
