Description

Art Deco patinated bronze figure by Sybille May showing a seated female nude figure holding a bouquet of flowers. The figure is seated on a shell and is on a polished black marble base. Signed to the rear of the bronze Sybille  May marked Made in France  and numbered 6. Excellent original condition and patina. A superb example that demonstrates the influence of cubism on this renowned Art Deco sculptor.

History

Sybille May was an English artist who worked in France and was a member La Stele and Evolution and many of her pieces were produced by Arthur Goldscheider and by Editeur d’art Albert Buisson. She produced cubist ceramic items along with her friend Edouard Cazaux and also worked with Pierre Le Faguays. She had items on display at the Arts Decoratifs Exposition in Paris in 1925.

Condition Excellent original condition. A couple of very minor nibbles to the base
