Wigs on the Green has dated this piece to the 19th Century.

The painting is signed close to the edge (lower left side) E. W. Thomson Pinxt / 1838 and is housed in a period giltwood frame with a beaded outer edge. There frame has small losses to the decorative edges.

Working in London and Paris, E. W. Thomson (1770-1847) was also an engraver and a miniature painter. He worked from 69 Berners Street in London and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1832 and 1839.
