Excellent Japanese Meiji (Early 20thc) Heavy Bronze of Hotei

Description

Impressive Japanese Meiji/Taisho (early 20thC) bronze of Hotei, the ‘laughing buddha’ and one of the Seven Gods of Fortune. Hotei was based on a 10th-century Chinese monk named Budai and is known for his jolly and contented demeanour and considered a symbol of happiness, good luck and abundance. He’s depicted in a typical pose with his large exposed belly, a finger pointing skywards at the moon. 18cm wide x 11cm deep x 32cm high, weight 4.85kg.

Nice original condition and patina. Some scratches on base.
