In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 1890s.
They are skilfully painted with lots of detail and their large size makes them very decorative. They are both signed and dated to the lower left in red "Geo. Smith 1897".
The paintings are both on canvas and framed in their original gilt gesso frames.
The paintings have been lightly cleaned and both display beautifully. There are signs of age and some minor surface marks but nothing untoward. There are some minor losses and small chips around the frames but they are strong and sturdy and the gilding is bright and vibrant with a lovely patina.
