Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency mahogany Canterbury is a traditional piece of period furniture designed for organising sheet music or periodicals. The dark brown timber exhibits a polished finish and natural grain variation across its surfaces. Structurally, the upper section comprises two tiers of slotted dividers for compartment storage, positioned above an open shelf and a single flush-fitting lower drawer fitted with two circular brass pull knobs. The framework rests on turned legs terminating in brass castors, with visible woodturning details on the lower leg sections. Measuring 55 cm high, 46 cm wide and 32 cm deep, the unit fits compactly into living spaces such as a library, study or lounge. Placed beside a sofa, armchair or desk, it holds books, magazines and daily papers within easy reach while adding traditional character to the room.

FAQs

A Canterbury is a low wooden stand featuring vertical slotted partitions designed originally in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries to hold sheet music and bound volumes.

Regency Canterburys were predominantly crafted from high-grade solid mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, incorporating hand-dovetailed drawers, brass fittings, and brass castors.

Authentic Regency examples typically feature fine hand-cut dovetail joints, original period brassware, authentic surface patination on aged timbers, and slender reeded or turned legs.

An antique Canterbury functions as a functional holder for modern magazines, art books, or vinyl records when positioned beside an armchair or sofa in a living area or study.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a quality beeswax polish periodically, while keeping the piece away from direct heat sources.
