Royal Worcester Blush Ivory Ewer – Charles Baldwyn, Moonlit Owl Design – 1886

19th century
Description

An elegant blush ivory porcelain ewer by Royal Worcester, dated 1886, exquisitely hand-painted with a moonlit owl perched in flowering foliage. The piece is of pleasing to the eye tapering form with rope-twist neck, and ornately moulded handle, richly detailed in gilt.

This distinctive moonlit owl motif is attributed to Charles Baldwyn (1859–1943), Royal Worcester’s celebrated bird painter, although unsigned as per factory practice at the time. Baldwyn’s atmospheric nocturnes remain among the most sought-after works of late 19th-century Worcester production.
