A large oil on canvas after Vernet in the Italiate style of fisher folk in a coastal landscape, a period work c.1800, with a early nineteenth century frame of the highest quality. The painting is of the finest quality and is most certainly a work of the eighteenth probably by one of the many artists working at this time in the style of Vernet having observed his work in Italy. The work was obviously conserved in the early nineteenth century when it was lined and it appears that this large monumental frame was used to mount it at this time. The picture has been professionally cleaned and conserved as has the frame, although the overall condition is untouched.
