Landscape Oil Painting by George Hall Neale

A fine oil on artist board landscape by George Hall Neale 1863-1940. The painting beautifully depicts a summer scene on the coast with a small village and a brilliant blue sky. The painting has a bold use of colour and interesting technique from an artist that is most well known for being a portraitist. The painting is in excellent untouched condition and is signed to the lower right. George Hall Neale was born in Liverpool in 1863 and studied at Liverpool School of Art and then in Paris where he was taught by the eminent art teachers Jean-Paul Laurens and Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1891 and also at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters as well as every other major gallery multiple times. He was incredibly successful as a portraitist, painting a huge array of notable people. This landscape work is unusual for the artist and I suspect was painted purely for his own enjoyment. It is framed in the original frame which is in very good condition. The whole work has a great light feel about it and a huge amount of impact. C.1920.
