Peace Sykes "Roche Abbey" Yorkshire Oil on Canvas

1900 - 1920
Description

The Huddersfield artist Peace Sykes exhibited between 1886 and 1903.

He exhibited throughout the country at galleries including the Royal Academy, Royal Institute, Manchester and Liverpool.

He was the best of a family of painters from this area who painted in a good honest style capturing well the landscape of their surroundings at the time.

This example is an oil on canvas which measures 16"x 22". It is signed lower left and is contained in a good period gilt frame and is inscribed on the reverse "Roche Abbey" which is a charming ruin in the Southern part of Yorkshire near Rotherham.
