DESCRIPTION
This is a very elegant and unusual 19th century ash five tier stand. The lyre gallery back over sides with finely turned bobbin spindles and five slatted shelves. Perfect as a decorative accent in itself, but also useful as a display stand or music shelf.
Provenance: From the contents of Brook House, Ongar, the former home of Gillian Raffles (1930-2021) a pioneering art dealer and owner of the Mercury Gallery in Cork Street, London in 1964.
DIMENSIONS
104cm high x 50cm wide x 36cm deep
CONDITION
There are minor marks, knocks and scratches commensurate with age and use. There are some losses and repairs to the spindles, which are inherently very delicate. There were possibly originally seven on each side, and on spindle on the right hand side has the upper half missing. Good patina and very attractive.
