Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, Spanish equestrian sculptures and wall busts were frequently commissioned for country estates, stables, tack rooms, and commercial trade displays. They reflected the central cultural importance of horsemanship and Spanish horse breeds, often combining anatomical realism with expressive classical sculpting techniques.

Sculptors commonly employed plaster of Paris, terracotta, carved timber, or cast zinc. These forms were subsequently hand-painted, gilded, or finished with layered pigments and glazes to mimic cast bronze or stone while remaining lightweight enough for wall installation.

Authentic period pieces show organic paint wear, flaking, and paint layering consistent with age, alongside minor chips disclosing the underlying plaster substrate. Original mounting hardware, hand-worked carving marks, and natural dust accumulation in crevices also assist in verifying period origin.

A dark equestrian bust works effectively as a focal point mounted above a console table, sideboard, or fireplace mantel. It adds architectural texture and historic character when set against light wood panelling, crisp contemporary paintwork, or integrated into a gallery wall.

Clean gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush or a soft microfibre cloth to remove surface dust. Avoid liquid cleaners, damp sponges, or chemical solvents, as moisture can soften original plaster and dissolve historic paint layers.
