*Karl Herrle (24 December 1828 ; † after 1887). Herrle was registered in the register of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich on November 11, 1848, and received his matriculation certificate on July 13, 1849. Karl Herrle was commissioned by the Bavarian Railway Construction Commission to graphically document progress of construction work on all Bavarian state railway lines and structures. This resulted in many watercolors, some of which are in the collections of the DB Museum (Nuremberg). A part of his watercolors was presented to Queen Marie of Bavaria in the form of an album of the Bavarian Railway (1855). From 1856 to 1866, he worked as a painter in Würzburg. From 1870 to 1872, he worked as a decorative painter at the Riga City Theater and also painted views of the city. Notably much of his work originated from special commissions, and of particular interest to Royalty.
**Ludwig II (Ludwig Otto Friedrich Wilhelm; 25 August 1845 – 13 June 1886). Also called the Swan King or the Fairy Tale King (der Märchenkönig). King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death in 1886. His architectural and extravagant artistic legacy includes many of Bavaria''s most important tourist attractions. He commissioned the construction of lavish palaces: Neuschwanstein Castle, Linderhof Palace, and Herrenchiemsee. This extravagance was used against him to declare him insane - referred to as ''the Mad King'' or ''Mad King Ludwig''.
