Description

Very decorative pair of early 19th century Regency period black painted plaster classically dressed 'Muse' candlesticks or storm lamps in the manner of Humphrey Hopper (1767–1844) set apon a striking pair of well figured English alabaster classical block bases. The nicely modelled muses are depicted holding a draped bowl on which sits a gilt bronze candle cup which is also a storm lamp holder. Gilt bronze ormolu snuffers. Unsigned. English, circa 1820.
