Marine Coastal Scene: ''Off Southsea'' This beautifully painted watercolour shows a fleet of working boats under sail. The rich light and subtle movement of the water are characteristic of Aldridge’s celebrated marine scenes. Though signed “J. Hill”, this name is a reputed pseudonym used by Aldridge during his career when producing works for commercial galleries.
 
Approximate age of artwork: Late 19th century (c.1890–1910)
