Hoshiarpur furniture originates from the Punjab region of India and became prominent during the 19th century, particularly under British colonial rule when these intricately crafted pieces were exported to Europe and gained popularity in Victorian interiors.

These pieces are typically constructed from local hardwoods such as sheesham or shisham, featuring intricate micro-mosaic inlays of bone, horn, or ivory, often combined with complex geometric or floral woodcarvings and folding frame designs.

Authentic items generally exhibit hand-carved joinery, traditional pegged construction, natural age patina on the timber, and hand-cut inlay work where slight irregularities indicate manual craftsmanship rather than modern mass production.

This type of occasional furniture works well as an accent piece alongside neutral modern upholstery or as a bedside table, introducing global texture, rich tones, and historical contrast to minimalist spaces.

Preservation involves keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, dusting gently with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood and protect the delicate inlay.
