About the Artist – Joseph Appleyard (1908–1960)

Joseph Appleyard was a celebrated Yorkshire artist known for his vivid depictions of the northern English landscape. Born in Leeds, he trained at the Leeds College of Art and became renowned for his modern yet atmospheric views of the Dales, Moors, and coastlines of Yorkshire. His work captures the region’s changing skies, light-filled fields, and rolling hills with a uniquely expressive brushstroke and clarity of form.
