Biography
Jonathan Richard Turner was a distinguished painter, draughtsman, and educator born in 1937 in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. He pursued his artistic training at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art from 1957 to 1961, studying under the renowned artist William Coldstream. During his time at the Slade, Turner honed his skills in both figurative and abstract styles, developing a distinctive approach to composition and color.
Following his studies, Turner embarked on a multifaceted career in the arts. He taught at various institutions before being appointed head of the Art and Design Department at Harrow School, where he served from 1967 to 1982. His role as an educator allowed him to inspire countless students while continuing to develop his own artistic practice.
Turner’s work was exhibited widely during his lifetime. He participated in notable group exhibitions, including the Salon des Indépendants in Paris in 1962, as well as shows in London, Cheltenham, and Harrow. His paintings and drawings were celebrated for their technical precision and innovative approach to abstraction. Turner lived in Hatch End, Middlesex, where he remained active in the artistic community.
