Drabware is a type of unglazed or salt-glazed stoneware or earthenware featuring a muted brownish-grey or beige body, which gained significant popularity in England during the late 18th and 19th centuries.

Potters typically utilised refined earthenware or stoneware clay bodies tinted with metallic oxides to achieve the characteristic flat, neutral drab colouration, often accented with gilding or applied reliefs.

Authentic pieces are identified through makers marks, crazing in the glaze, weight, potting technique, and consistency with historical manufacturing styles from potteries such as Ridgway.

Such pieces function well as sculptural display objects on a sideboard or mantelpiece, or repurposed as dry floral vases to introduce historical texture into neutral modern schemes.

Earthenware should be hand washed gently using mild soap and lukewarm water, avoiding immersion for extended periods, harsh scrubbing, and dishwashers to protect fragile historical glazes and gilding.
