Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originally commissioned by the Bishop of Canterbury in the late 18th century, a Canterbury is a specialised piece of mobile furniture featuring vertical partitions designed to hold sheet music, bound volumes, or periodicals.

Victorian Canterburys were typically crafted from fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, frequently finished with decorative burr veneers, turned spindle supports, integrated drawers, and brass or ceramic castors.

Authentic 19th-century pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the lower drawer, natural hand-turned column supports, original brass socket castors or ceramic wheels, and genuine burr walnut veneer displaying complex grain patterns.

A burr walnut Canterbury serves as an elegant side table alongside an armchair or sofa, offering organised storage for contemporary magazines, art books, or tablets while adding architectural warmth to living rooms and studies.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain annually, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking or fading of the veneer.
