*Nicolas Fortin (1750-1831) designed a cylindrical glass reservoir with a leather bottom. With a screw and the leather bottom they managed the mercury level. With a pen in the reservoir the mercury was placed at the tip of the pins which resulted in the zero point of the barometer. This Fortin barometer type was used in laboratory for research.
