The Fiddler, Ca 1950: Expressive Original Bronze Sculpture Elongated Giacometti Style
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:Skippings Fine Arts
This poignant and expressive bronze sculpture cast in the traditional lost wax method is, according to the previous owner, a work by the Italian sculptor Franco d''Aspro (born 1911). The attribution makes a lot of sense: born in Piedmont, Italy, d''Aspro excelled early in life in the study of arts and music and becoming an accomplished violinist before turning to sculpture. He visited fellow Italian Alberto Giacometti in Paris in 1929 and befriended Alberto''s younger brother Diego, also a sculptor.
Whilst later revisiting the Italian Antique era in his practice, d''Aspro was influenced by the Giacometti brothers during his time in France.
